Apparently, the gang over at Immigration and Customs Enforcement have raised the ire of the drooling-idiot brigade of hate radio spewers by insisting that immigration detention centers be made more humane.
The story in the Houston Chronicle details plans for proposed reforms to the nation's immigration holding areas, including, better food, better living conditions, more accountability for staff as well as the following:
• Eliminating lockdowns and lights-out for low-risk detainees.
• Allowing visitors to stay as long as they like in a 12-hour period.
• Providing a unit manger so detainees have someone to report problems to other than the guard.
• Allowing low-risk detainees to wear their own clothing or other non-penal attire.
• Providing e-mail access and Internet-based free phone service.
For some reason, the memo on reforms included a bit about "fresh carrot sticks." And for other, equally opaque reasons, the hate radio gang seized upon the "fresh carrot sticks" as somehow being the final insult to their dignity as Americans. How dare illegal immigrants think they can just waltz across our border and eat our carrots...
But here's what I believe have the asshats and the wingnuts most peeved about this. It's not really the carrots or the free internet...
“When people come to our custody, we're detaining them to effect their removal,” said Beth Gibson, ICE's senior counselor to Assistant Secretary John Morton and a leader of the detention reform effort. “It's about deportation. It's not about punishing people for a crime they committed.”
These people are the same people who watch "24" thinking they are participating in some kind of national referendum on torture. They are closet sadists. And in a lot of cases, not even that "closeted."
They equate undocumented workers with terrorists, and the only thing they should be getting is "The Full Sparky" and a some water boarding before we send them packing in plague ships back to their own country.
Legions of hate radio and teabagger devotees will wank themselves into slumber this evening with visions of the brown menace being beaten and degraded into fleeing the shores of WhiteAmerica™ n'er to return. And this bureaucratic nabob is trying to harsh their buzz! The nerve!
