Chalk one up for the brave state of Oklahoma, whose leading GOP light, State Senator Rex Duncan (and doesn't that sound like a rough trade nom d'amour) has introduced legislation to keep courts in the Sooner state from imposing Sharia Law on the Okies.
Essentially, the "Save Our State Amendment" would "prohibit courts from considering international or sharia law when deciding cases."
Oklahomans recognize that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, [this proposal] is a pre-emptive strike to make sure that liberal judges don't take to the bench in an effort to use their position to undermine those principles by considering international or sharia law.
Memo to Rex: I know you may not be conversant with the actual wording or meaning of the U.S. Constitution, so allow me to introduce you to Article VI, Legal Status of the Consititution, to wit:
This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land...
So in the event, the U.S. signs a treaty with a Islamic nation that requires us to deal with them in a certain way comporting with Islamic law... guess what... your proposal requires Oklahoma judges to adhere to "fedreral law" which equates to Oklahoma honoring that treaty...
Which doesn't surprise me anyway, given that Rex and his gang are basically theocratic fascists anyway. So perhaps this is subtle back door way to sneak Sharia Law into Oklahoma... sure would keep those homos and feminists in their place.
